How to rotate a photo 90 degrees

Drop your image into the tool above, then tap 90° left or 90° right until the orientation looks correct in the live preview. Each tap rotates the image a quarter turn, and you can combine rotations with a horizontal or vertical flip before downloading. The exported file keeps your original format — JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG — at full quality.

Why phone photos come out sideways

Cameras record an EXIF orientation flag instead of physically rotating pixels, and many apps and websites ignore that flag. This tool reads the EXIF data, normalizes the orientation first, and then applies your rotation — so the downloaded file displays correctly everywhere, including in email clients, forms, and older software that ignores EXIF.

Rotate images without losing quality

A 90°, 180° or 270° rotation rearranges pixels without resampling them, so the image itself is not degraded. JPG re-encoding on export uses a high 92% quality setting; for completely lossless rotation, use PNG files. All processing happens in your browser using the Canvas API — your photo is never uploaded to any server.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating an image reduce its quality?

No. Quarter-turn rotations move pixels without resampling. PNG exports are lossless; JPG exports re-encode at high quality (92%), which is visually identical for photos.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Rotation runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device.

Can I rotate and flip at the same time?

Yes. Apply any number of 90° rotations plus a horizontal or vertical flip, preview the result live, then download once.

What formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP. The download keeps your original format — PNGs export as PNG, everything else as high-quality JPG.
