How this background remover works
This tool runs a neural network (U²-Net, a saliency segmentation model) directly in your browser via WebAssembly. The model examines your image, predicts which pixels belong to the foreground subject, and converts everything else to transparency. Because inference happens on your device, your photo is never transmitted anywhere — a meaningful difference from upload-based removers, especially for product shots, ID photos, or personal images. The one-time 4.5MB model download is cached by your browser, so every later use starts instantly.
Remove background without losing quality
The output is a full-resolution transparent PNG at your original dimensions (capped only by your device’s safe canvas limit of roughly 16 megapixels). Edges are anti-aliased using the model’s soft mask rather than a hard cutout, which keeps hair, fur, and fine edges natural. For best results use a photo where the subject is clearly distinct from the background; very busy scenes or subjects that blend into the backdrop are harder for any segmentation model.
